When searching for a place to relocate, consider more than Katy real estate and the Katy Independent School District; Katy boasts an aggressive business community. Katy Area Economic Development Council www.katyedc.org/index.php The Katy Area Economic Development Council (Katy Area EDC) originated as an idea of the Economic Development Committee of the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce in December of 2002. The purpose of creating the organization was born from the fact that the Katy area, being a tri-county location was overlooked by major economic development projects due to minimal efforts to market and facilitate economic development. Through several meetings with key community stakeholders, elected officials and economic development professionals, a core group of members developed initial plans and began to solicit initial support for the organization. Based on the unique tri-government structure of the area, the founders determined that the organization would be funded and supported mainly by the private sector. Three membership levels were created ranging from $15,000 per year to $1,000 per year and an initial membership of 15 Board of Governors was established. During October 2003, the organization was incorporated as a 501(c) (6) non-profit corporation, by-laws drafted, and an initial strategic plan developed. Since October 2003, the Katy Area EDC has helped facilitate the creation of over 3,900 jobs and $400,000,000 in capital investment. Katy Area EDC now has a strong base support with over 80 members and a $500,000 budget.
